Project Overview
Bridging Generations is a youth–senior community initiative by Vietnamese American Care (VAC) that connects youth and seniors through shared experiences in music, art, and technology.
By bringing two generations together in a creative and caring environment, the project helps close the generation gap, promote mutual understanding, and preserve Vietnamese cultural values through meaningful interaction.
Each workshop is more than a class — it’s a space where learning flows both ways: youth teach seniors digital skills, while elders share wisdom, life stories, and traditions that deepen cultural identity and empathy.
Purpose and Goals
The purpose of Bridging Generations is to:
• Encourage empathy and meaningful connection between youth and older adults through shared learning experiences.
• Preserve cultural heritage by fostering understanding of Vietnamese traditions, language, and art.
• Empower seniors with essential modern skills—especially in technology and digital communication—to reduce isolation and increase independence.
• Inspire youth leadership and community involvement rooted in respect, compassion, and service.
Key Program Activities
Music and Art Workshops
Students and seniors collaborate in music, dance, and art projects — from karaoke sing-alongs and painting sessions to cultural performances — celebrating creativity and cross-generational harmony.
Technology Classes
Youth volunteers teach seniors how to use smartphones, email, social media, and video calls, empowering them to stay connected with family and friends. These sessions reduce digital isolation while fostering patience, laughter, and teamwork.
Cultural Exchange & Storytelling
Through conversations and storytelling circles, seniors share personal journeys, while youth gain insight into Vietnamese history, values, and resilience. These sessions strengthen cultural pride and bridge the gap between past and present.
