Together, We Care is a monthly outreach initiative of Organization of Anonymous Contributors (OAC), doing business as Vietnamese American Care (VAC).
Through care, music, and togetherness, OAC/VAC envisions a compassionate and inclusive community where every elder is honored, every smile matters, and no one feels forgotten.
By combining care, music, and togetherness, OAC/VAC reaffirms its belief that the greatest gift we can offer our elders is meaningful human connection.

Project Overview
Together, We Care is a monthly outreach initiative by Vietnamese American Care (VAC) that brings warmth, connection, and happiness to seniors living in low-income housing communities across San José.
Through acts of kindness — from free haircuts and birthday celebrations to karaoke, dancing, and shared lunches — the project creates a welcoming space where seniors feel valued, joyful, and deeply connected to the community around them. The program strengthens social connection, emotional well-being, and community trust among seniors in low-income housing communities.
Purpose and Goals
The mission of Together We Care is to nurture both hearts and spirits by:
- Celebrating dignity and life stories of elders who have contributed so much to the community.
- Reducing isolation and loneliness among low-income and homebound seniors.
- Promoting emotional well-being through joyful, social, and interactive activities.
- Strengthening community bonds between generations through volunteer engagement.
Key Program Activities
- Free Haircuts and Personal Care
Volunteer barbers and stylists, supported by community partners offer free haircuts and grooming services, helping seniors look and feel refreshed — a simple yet powerful gesture of care and dignity.
- Birthday Celebrations and Special Events
Each visit includes birthday parties for seniors celebrating that month, complete with cake, decorations, and music. Cultural events and seasonal gatherings help seniors reconnect with traditions and community joy.
- Karaoke, Dancing, and Shared Lunches
From lively karaoke sessions to traditional dances and home-style lunches, these gatherings turn senior housing sites into vibrant spaces filled with laughter, music, and human connection.
